The First Burn is Most Important
If you don’t allow your candle enough time to form a full melt pool on the first burn, a tunnel may start to form around the wick.
This will make it more difficult for the wax around the edges of the jar to melt, causing the tunneling effect to continue with each burn.
Eventually the tunnel will become too deep for fresh oxygen to flow in, and your candle will have trouble staying lit for more than short periods of time.
To prevent this issue, make sure to give your candle enough time to develop a melted wax pool that goes all the way to the edge of the container the first time you use it. This calls for a first burn of about 3-4 hours! -
More About our Candles & Ingredients
There are a ton of waxes candles are made from including: Parrafin, Soy, Beeswax, Apricot, and a plethora of blends.
Why do we choose soy wax? Soy wax is vegan, burns cleaner, burns longer, and made from a natural product. Our signature 10oz candles can burn anywhere from 40-50+ hours if they're taken care of.
Wicks are also a tricky subject. Not all wicks are made the same. We originally created candles using wooden wicks, which proved to be problematic and finicky. Now, we use natural cotton wicks with a paper core. No zinc or metals exist in the interiors of our wicks!
And fragrance. One of the most important things that make a candle what it is: an experience. Our products are made with fragrance oils that are Certified Clean - meaning they're free from phthalates, carcinogens, and toxins. -
Trimming Your Wick
Other than the tunneling problem, if your candle won’t stay lit it’s probably because the wick is too long, or it needs to be trimmed clean of charred material.
Remember it’s not the wick fueling your candle’s flame, it’s the wax. The flame is drawing the wax upwards through the wick, so if it’s not trimmed short and clean, the wax can’t make it to the flame.
For optimal burn, keep your wick trimmed to about 1/4”. You’ll also want to clean off any charred bits or "mushrooming" to prevent your candle from smoking.
For trimming, we recommend a set of wick trimmers.
